According to the IUCN, there are currently some 202,500 protected areas on the planet, covering 20 million square km. This represents 14.7% of the world’s total surface area. However, 8 out of 10 lack complete and rigorous protection to ensure their integrity.
The planet’s natural protected areas are the best way to ensure the world’s biodiversity, and a very effective tool against climate change.
VISIT OF THE MONTH
This camel trek showed us how complicated desert journeys can be.
In exchange for water and food for their remaining journey through the dunes of the Middle East, we were able to learn from them the secrets of the region, how to find their way around without GPS and where to go to see the only oasis in miles of sand.
