Gransolar (in association) announced that has completed construction and commissioning of two 75MWdc solar PV plants in South Africa – Lesedi and Letsatsi Projects. Gransolar is also the O&M Contractor of both plants for the next 15 years.
Lesedi Project is located 30 km east of Postmasburg, in the Northern Cape province, and Letsatsi Project is located 40 km west of Bloemfontein, in the Free State province. These projects have been developed and financed by SolarReserve, Old Mutual Investment Group South Africa, Kensani Group, GCL Poly Energy Holdings and Intikon Energy. Rand Merchant Bank acted as Mandated Lead Arranger.
The Lesedi and Letsatsi Projects, totaling 150 MWdc, comprise 555.264 crystalline silicon solar panels mounted on fixed structure, and will provide clean electricity to approximately 130.000 South African homes.
Both Projects have successfully met or exceeded the Economic Development Obligations targets set by the Department of Energy, thus contributing to the socio-economic development of the regions where Projects are located.
